Big Brother Canada renewed for season 6, per Global TV announcement

Leading into tonight’s airing of Big Brother 19 on Global, there was a tease for some time that a big announcement was coming. Not only that, but there was a countdown clock attached to the official Big Brother Canada page. If there is one thing that all of this suggested, it was that the show would be coming back for a sixth season after being previously put “on hiatus.”

When this hiatus news was first announced earlier this year, it was not received very well by most of the Big Brother community. Even if we do all have problems here and there when it comes to the show, by and large it’s entertainment gold and a show that does encourage interactivity and fan interaction. We’ve covered it from the beginning, so we’re happy to be able to continue that trend.

Now, it’s official: Big Brother Canada is coming back for a season 6! Arisa Cox confirmed the renewal in a live video, saying that the new season will be coming back onto Global in 2018. This is a direct result of all the fans who campaigned for the show.

In the end, it’s the same as we’ve said many times over at this point — longtime fans of the show deserve a massive round of applause, given that without them, we wouldn’t be in this position right now and the show wouldn’t have much in the way of a tangible future. These are fans who have fought hard to make their dream of more a reality, and they should be commended for their efforts.

Now, let’s just hope that Big Brother Canada 6 is awesome — and that the show gets back a little to the basics of all newbies. The returning players worked for season 5, but it feels like time for something new. There will be plenty of time to discuss casting and twist possibilities, but for now let’s just go ahead and rejoice the fact that the show’s coming back.

We recognized their passion for this high quality, dynamic, and engaging series, and are thrilled to have Big Brother Canada on the Global schedule next year.”

Meanwhile, John Brunton, Executive Producer and Chairman & CEO of Insight Productions, added this:

“Big Brother Canada has the best fans in the world, and we could not be more thrilled and honoured to be producing a brand new season of Big Brother Canada for them. Strap on your seatbelts, it’s going to be another wild ride.”
