Once Upon a Time season 7 premiere date reportedly revealed
According to SpoilerTV, the SDCC footage out there suggests that the show is going to be returning to ABC on Friday, October 6 at 8:00 p.m. Eastern time, which is about what we expected when you look at the schedule that is happening elsewhere. For example, Marvel’s Inhumans will have a two-hour premiere the week beforehand, and ABC will want to have a show airing before that so there is some sort of substantial lead-in helping it out.
Is Once Upon a Time really a substantial lead-in when you’re thinking about 2017? There’s an argument there that it’s clearly not the case, but sometimes, you just have to roll with the punches and this show was at one point a huge hit. Now, it’s entering what is effectively a reboot phase with a very different cast beyond Lana Parrilla, Colin O’Donoghue, and Robert Carlyle — the only people who are returning year-to-year. There are many new additions including Dania Ramirez, Gabrielle Anwar, Adelaide Kane, and more, but the specifics surrounding many of their roles still remain to be seen. The biggest thing that we do know is that the show has to find a way to recapture some of the magic that it once had.
One of the more interesting tests that we’re going to see with the series is that of competition. The 8:00 p.m. Eastern timeslot on Friday nights is actually proving to be a little bit of a beast this fall! After all, you’ve got in one spot Blindspot over on NBC, and then MacGyver over on CBS. Fox has Hell’s Kitchen, which is not necessarily a terrible performer in the demo, either. This is probably the most competitive we’ve seen Friday nights in ages, which is good for TV given that this was at one point coined the “death slot” and it’s far from that these days. Of course, for the average viewer, it could be tough to figure out what to watch. There are only so many people who tend to be home on Fridays in the first place!
