MasterChef season 8 episode 8 preview: Cow country; current favorites

MasterChef season 8

On MasterChef season 8 episode 8, we’re going to see a performance from a home cook that, per the preview that aired tonight, will cause harsh reactions. Oh, and we’re also going to see a cow turn up during the Mystery Box Challenge.

When we see the cow turn up, only to then later see what seems to be steaks for the elimination challenge, we really wish that someone had taken that cow over to Chik-fil-A instead of the MasterChef kitchen. We know that nothing’s going to happen to the poor cow in this moment, but you’re cooking their friends right in front of them!

Anyhow, we know we’re being super-ridiculous about this point and it’s better to move on to the other question at hand: Out of the remaining home cooks, who is the one best equipped to actually win this season in the end? In looking at tonight alone, Eboni has gone up dramatically in our power rankings and is up there now with people like Dino, Reba, and even Yachecia despite her struggles in the team challenge tonight. You also cannot rule out Brien, who has been very good albeit barely on the show as of late. There’s a pretty good field this season, and one of the best things about it is probably that there is not one clear favorite of the bunch who will steamroll almost everyone else?

With Jennifer gone, there’s also not a person remaining who we feel at the moment is in the most danger of going home next. We’re a little worried about Cate after she struggled during that Team Challenge, but this may just be a question of skill set. She’s clearly a talented home cook given that she did well in the prior episode, but leading a team may just not be her thing and that’s totally fine.

To date, the real winners are mostly us given that we are in the midst of a very good season of the show with some great casting and challenges that have produced some drama. We do hope that the show does deviate a little bit from Gordon Ramsay recreations the next few weeks, though, and gives Christina Tosi some sort of further showcase given that we haven’t seen as much of her specialty so far this season.
