Ratings: Shadowhunters season 2, Stitchers, Wynonna Earp, Dark Matter

Shadowhunters

In this ratings article, we’ve clearly got a lot to discuss in between Stitchers, Wynonna Earp, Shadowhuntersand Dark MatterWith that, we don’t want to waste too much time here on the intro — let’s get right into some of the meat instead.

Shadowhunters – The good news is that nothing can take away from the fact that the show already has a season 3 renewal. Unfortunately, the downside is that the ratings still aren’t surging forward after struggling a little this summer. The 0.2 rating the show generated Monday in the 18-49 demographic is about even to the week before; the viewer total of 589,000 does demonstrate a marked improvement, but the reality remains that this is down from the show’s average and down pretty considerably from what the show was getting in season 1.

The silver lining here is that Shadowhunters as a series remains enormously popular in all parts of the world, and also is heavily watched and streamed after the fact.

Stitchers – Elsewhere on Freeform, the latest episode of their procedural generated a 0.1 rating (same as it almost always gets) and then close to 350,000 viewers. This is far from the most-watched show known to man, but it does continue to hold its own and retain viewers very well. This is not a show losing much in the way of numbers. Instead, it’s just one that never had that much in the way of numbers to begin with. We hope that it will be renewed, but this is probably one of those shows that we’re never going to feel that good about until it gets renewed. Its ratings just aren’t of the sort that tend to inspire all that much confidence.

Dark Matter – Cool news here — the Syfy series managed to turn things around in posting a 0.2 rating, up from the series low the week before. It was down slightly in total viewers, but not too much to make us want to press the panic button. Ratings are down in the demo/total viewers around 10% from season 2, but that’s still below average in terms of whittling down numbers. You have to remember here that the vast majority of shows out there these days tend to lose so much more than this in 2017.

Wynonna Earp – Finally, let’s go to one of our favorites — and there’s actually not that much in the way of new information to report here! With a 0.1 rating and just around 500,000 viewers, the show was pretty much even with the week before. We’d like to see the show trend up, but hey — it’s better than going the other way. Its year-to-year decreases, by the way, are even smaller than Dark Matter, and that gives us a little bit more in the way of the future.
