The Big Bang Theory star Melissa Rauch pregnant; read her touching story

Melissa Rauch

Mrs. Carter: Melissa Rauch of The Big Bang Theory is pregnant; however, her story behind it is especially emotional.

In a new essay (which you can read over at Glamour), the actress discussed having a miscarriage the last time that she was expecting, and the difficulties that she’s gone through as a result of that. At the same time, she also touches on some of her fears that she has now:

“Here is the only statement regarding my pregnancy that doesn’t make me feel like a complete fraud: ‘Melissa is expecting her first child. She is extremely overjoyed, but if she’s being honest, due to the fact that she had a miscarriage the last time she was pregnant, she’s pretty much terrified at the moment that it will happen again. She feels weird even announcing this at all, and would rather wait until her child heads off to college to tell anyone, but she figures she should probably share this news before someone sees her waddling around with her mid-section protruding and announces it first.'”

The way that Rauch expresses her thoughts here is wonderful — it’s very honest, funny at times, but also very touching and powerful. It’s real in a way that you often don’t see when it comes to discussing celebrity culture. We’re thrilled for her and her husband Winston, and hope that the remainder of their pregnancy is full of good health and happiness. After everything that they’ve been through, they absolutely deserve that happiness.

Will the pregnancy be written into the show?

We know that there will be questions surrounding that, and personally, we hope that they do because that will make her so much more comfortable on the show and allow Bernadette and Howard to have a meaty storyline at the same time. The writers have been fairly realistic in their depiction of the financial ramifications that come sometimes with welcoming a child; it’s something that caused Howard to take on more work, and figure out how to be more responsible. It also expanded the world of the show, and their child Halley has become a rather humorous part of the show that mirrors already what we had with Howard’s mother on the show so many years ago.

New episodes of The Big Bang Theory will premiere this September, and they will start filming in the weeks to come. We’ll probably get a chance to learn a little bit more on this subject in the weeks to come. (For the record, season 10 ended with a big cliffhanger surrounding Jim Parsons’ Sheldon, as he proposed to Amy after Dr. Nowitzki kissed him in his office. That may be one of the first orders of business when the show comes back on the air.)
