New Warriors spoilers: Who is playing Squirrel Girl?

Squirrel Girl

If there is one question at the heart of Marvel’s New Warriors, it is this: Who is playing Squirrel Girl? It’s one of the stranger characters within the comic-book universe, but it’s also one that has a dedicated following. (It’s also one that got all sorts of crazy headlines because of Anna Kendrick talking about it a long time ago — obviously she was never going to play the part on the Freeform series, but kudos to her for getting the character out there.)

Today, we’ve got some more news when it comes to the cast for the ten-episode first season of the show. Want to know more? Read on for some information on a key trio of cast members.

Milana Vayntrub – The recent This Is Us actress, who played a love interest of Justin Hartley’s character of Kevin for a brief stretch, will be playing Squirrel Girl on the series. She’s such an adventurous, funny character that seeing her enthusiasm on the show could prove to be rather exciting.

Derek Theler – Clearly, Freeform loved what they were getting from Derek on Baby Daddy, given that they have just given him another role! Here, he is playing Craig Hollis, who goes by the alter ego of Mister Immortal. His powers supposedly speak for themselves, but it’s not altogether clear how well they work given that he hasn’t shown all that much of a willingness to display them just yet.

Jeremy Tardy – Mere weeks after we interviewed Tardy for his scene-stealing role on Netflix’s Dear White People (already renewed for a second season), we’ve now learned that he will be playing the part here of Dwayne Taylor (otherwise known as Night Thrasher), a guy who has no problem promoting himself and some of his capabilities. Despite all of this, he does have a very grounded and very strong belief in securing justice no matter what it takes.

One more thing that we’re excited about when it comes to The New Warriors? Remember the fact that we’ve got Kevin Biegel on board as a showrunner. Enlisted on Fox was one of our favorite comedies of the past several years — it didn’t quite make it, but it’s worth watching if you are able to find it somewhere.

New Warriors will not premiere until next year, and our biggest question for now is if Marvel fans will find their room in their schedules to watch it given the wide array of different comic-book shows are already out there.
