Hawaii Five-0 season 8 filming, but what’s going to change?

Hawaii Five-0 season 8 filming

For those wondering, Hawaii Five-0 season 8 filming has officially begun! The show is kicking off production, and they’ve had their opening blessing to prepare things for the new batch of episodes to begin.

So long as you love the show, this is good news given that the CBS series is one of the best of its kind. The bad news is that there is still a great deal of uncertainty when it comes to the show’s long-term future. Daniel Dae Kim and Grace Park are gone, and there is no precise word as of yet regarding who will end up replacing them — or filling the void left in the cast, we should say. We don’t really want to use the word “replacing” because that implies that there is a way to replace two people who were so beloved.

What we do know is that there is a new character being cast in Tani, a lifeguard and former police academy student who didn’t exactly see her future there plan out the way that she wanted to. This was a character that, for the record, was being cast before the start of season 8 filming, and it’s a character who hopefully will be brought on and become a part of the Task Force in one way or another pretty quickly. One of the stories that has not come up much since the exit of Kim and Park is the sheer episode count for the series: We’re talking a whopping 25 installments most years, and that’s a lot for any cast to handle. One of the only reasons that it was feasible here was because of the fact that you had so many major cast members who shared a lot of screen time together.

It’s with this in mind that it’s our belief there will be one or two more cast members added during the season, but it is challenging to do that right away with scripts likely being written already. Think in terms of timing as to when Criminal Minds introduced Damon Gupton as Stephen Walker, or when NCIS introduced Emily Wickersham as Ellie Bishop. The shows had a few episodes to stabilize, and then some new people entered the fold. You’ll meet Tani much sooner than that, but as for everyone else, it’s probably going to take a little bit of time.

New episodes of Hawaii Five-0 start airing on CBS this September. By the time that these installments come on the air, there is a reasonably good chance that several episodes will be in the can and you’ll get a better chance to understand what’s coming up.

While you wait…
