Real Housewives of Orange County preview: Lydia McLaughlin, Shannon Beader’s awkward meeting

Lydia McLaughlinLydia McLaughlin and Shannon Beador are going to meet for the first time on Monday’s Real Housewives of Orange County premiere. How will it go? Not well…

As the video below indicates perfectly, you’re going to have a chance to see a discussion take place between the two ladies while presumably out at an event, one where Shannon quickly finds herself rather offended. Why? She doesn’t like Lydia’s tone, and seems to think that she is speaking to her in a way that is unfitting to her. To go more specific about it, Shannon seems to be upset about the fact that Lydia on some level must be thinking that she is “like Vicki.” If there is a way to instantly upset Shannon, it’s probably by conjuring up the name Vicki Gunvalson — with the big twist here being that Lydia didn’t even do that. She seems just as much confused as anyone as to what is really going on here, and she doesn’t get many answers. Kudos to her for trying to stay calm, but it doesn’t really do much to defuse the situation.

At the end of the preview, we see Shannon storm off while Lydia utters that the two of them are probably not going to be the best of friends. Wonder what gave that way? Meanwhile, Shannon swears and seems ready to take off her microphone, which could be a record for the fast anyone’s wanted to do this while filming the new season.

This season of The Real Housewives of Orange County marks the first time years that Lydia has been a part of the show; admittedly, there was a time when we never thought that we’d see her again on the series, but it’s possible that she was thinking the same thing at the time. Her return should be interesting just because there are so many new people for her to meet, and there could be conflict with some of them as well. She’s also not privy to some of the relationship history that is there; for example, even though she’s been around Vicki and Tamra Judge (who was there for the whole Shannon confrontation, by the way), she was not around for the arrival of Shannon, Meghan King Edmonds, or Kelly Dodd. These women are all returning for season 12, with the notable departure being Heather Dubrow.

Where will the season go?

Also, you can head over here if you missed some other recent details about season 12 and want to check it out — we do like to think there’s a lot of good stuff included there. (Photo: Bravo.)
