America’s Got Talent: Analyzing the Golden Buzzer recipients

Golden Buzzer acts

Is America’s Got Talent new tonight? It’s understandable to want it, but the thing you have to remember right now is timing. Tonight is the Fourth of July! With that, there’s not really all that much of an interest for NBC to lose viewers with the holiday falling on a Tuesday this year.

As a result of this, the network is airing their annual Macy’s Fourth of July Fireworks Spectacular — if you do want to read more about that, you can do so over at the link here.

For the sake of this article (we did still want to give you something today!), our main purpose is assessing the field of Golden Buzzer acts and determining which ones are the most likely to actually go deep in the competition. We do think that there is some variation between them, after all.

Darci Lynne (Mel B) – The first Golden Buzzer act this season likely has the best chance of going far, given that other than Terry Fator, we’ve never seen anyone be able to sing while also being a ventriloquist. It’s such a creative act, and add to this the fact that Darci is so young. Younger acts do tend to be celebrated more by America.

Mandy Harvey (Simon Cowell) – Her story as a deaf singer is incredible, and what she did with her first audition was equally remarkable. She’s absolutely someone to watch as the season goes on, but because great stories don’t always win, we’re a little more bullish on Darci at the moment.

Light Balance (Tyra Banks) – This group has a good chance of making it to the final because these dance / visual acts are so appealing to watch. Alas, we really don’t see a situation where they actually come through as the champions. This is a classic second or third-place act.

Christian Guardino (Howie Mandel) – Probably the most forgettable of the four acts in retrospect, mostly because there are some other singers who got a Golden Buzzer before him and despite his talent, singers do tend to blend together.

There is still one more Golden Buzzer out there, and the process of elimination dictates that this one will go to Heidi Klum. You’ll get a chance to see potentially her use it next week when the show returns to NBC. Our hope is that she uses it on someone who’s not a singer, mostly because the judges so far in the past two seasons have all used their buzzers on acts with some sort of vocal component. (We’re not counting the hosts in here for obvious reasons. They don’t quite fit the bill.)

Now, time for your thoughts
