Cable ratings: Nashville season 5, Preacher season 2, Queen of the South

Nashville season 5 ratings

In this edition of cable ratings, we’re once again cycling through some of the latest and greatest headlines.

Let’s begin today with the Nashville season 5 ratings, which we would say are a marker of great consistency even with the departure of Connie Britton. Thursday’s episode ended up drawing in total a 0.2 rating, and then also a total of 770,000 viewers. In general, this was actually an improvement from where the show was at this point a week ago, and any improvement that you get during a season of a show is absolutely something that you have to smile about and celebrate. After all, this is not something that happens all that often!

There are still several episodes still to go this season, which is certainly enough time for some further fluctuations here and there in the numbers.

How did Preacher perform on Mondays?

After having a special Sunday premiere the AMC show took its standard Monday timeslot earlier this week, and by and large it turned in a serviceable performance. Nobody’s going to say that generating a 0.4 rating and 1.35 million viewers is incredible, but that’s about in line with most semi-successful cable series on FX / TNT / AMC these days. It’s not The Walking Dead or Fear the Walking Dead, but if it holds it should be enough to get the show another season. (Remember, with all of these shows the live ratings are just a small percentage in their overall equation in the first place, and they also are able to generate some great viewership courtesy of DVR views, streams, and a whole lot more.)

The latest on Queen of the South

For the first time since its series premiere, the USA drama showed a little bit of a weakness in Thursday’s ratings, dipping below a million viewers and posting a 0.3 rating in the demo. It was bound to happen eventually, and you could potentially site the proximity to the July 4 holiday as one of the biggest reasons why. This is something that will be worth looking at again next week, when the show’s hopefully a little more removed from the holiday. We’ll see how it performs then.
