Pretty Little Liars series finale: When Troian Bellisario knew Alex Drake

Troian

When did Troian Bellisario first know about the Alex Drake twist at the end of the epic Pretty Little Liars series finale? Well, it was earlier than you’d think.

Speaking on the “Wrap Party” aftershow tonight, Bellisario revealed that creator I. Marlene King told her two years ago about the idea of her twin being A.D., the woman responsible for everything that had happened over the past year. This was something that she wanted to know, given that this is something that does inform who she is and the performance that she wanted to give. She also said, rather surprisingly, that Sid Vicious is one of the inspirations that she had behind her take on the villain. It was a tough challenge for her to take on two different characters in the last episode, but this was something that she was eager to do and excited to take on since it offered up opportunities to flex different muscles and show a side that she hadn’t had a chance to play.

Meanwhile, King revealed a little bit later on the show that she had planned the entire reveal for years, but there were specifics here and there that weren’t figured out until when we got close to the end of writing the final episode. There was still a ton of planning that made sure that everything worked from start to finish.

Of course, there are still some unanswered questions, which shouldn’t actually surprise anyone given the fact that there was only so much time that could be devoted to all of this over a single two hours plus a reunion show. Maybe some will come out in deleted scenes, but the rest is just something that’s going to be created and discussed by the fans for many years to come. Personally, we’re very much curious why we couldn’t get at least a cameo in here from Cody Christian as Mike, given the fact that he was a big part of the earlier seasons of the show.
