The Originals season 4 finale ratings set stage for season 5
In total, the season 4 finale drew a 0.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic, which was about even with how it performed on The CW the week before. The show did decline somewhat in total viewers with around 910,000 people choosing to watch “The Feast of All Sinners” live.
For those of you who are looking for some more cross-comparisons across the entire season for the show. It’s a little interesting — The Originals was down almost 15% when it comes to viewers watching from within the 18-49 demographic, but it actually was up by a tiny margin in total viewers. Basically, more people watched the show this year, despite airing later in the summer, than they did last year. It’s just that most of the viewership is older for whatever reason. This is a show that has become darker and more mature over time, so that could be a part of it.
Now, the question is whether or not these ratings are good enough, if The Originals keeps them, for the show to get a season 2. We do think that for the time being, it’s possible. We think that this show should get a good six-season run — that would feel right for giving us the full extent of Klaus’ journey, and also seeing the evolution of those close to him. In some ways, though, you can argue that this story is as much the story of Hope as anyone given that we’ve seen her come into the world, her childhood, and her teenage years are presumably coming.
Elsewhere on Friday night – There’s not much to report, other than that a repeat of America’s Got Talent tied with the premiere of What Would You Do? for #1 on the night with a 0.9 rating.
