Longmire season 6: Who’s officially finished filming?

finished filming

With Longmire season 6 filming starting to wrap up, this is officially the time when we start to say goodbye to some of the show’s beloved cast members. In this instance, that includes Ruby.

In a post on Twitter on Thursday, Louanne Stephens (who’s played the character for so many years) confirmed that she filmed her last scene on the show earlier this week, a powerful moment that apparently led to a fond farewell from much of the cast. Stephens appeared in more than 40 episodes of the show between its time on A&E and on Netflix as the character; before that, one of her most notable highlights came courtesy of her time on Friday Night Lights, another great show that ran for several years — and ironically also was at the center of a lot of efforts to keep it on the air after it faced cancellation. Ruby was a key part of the vibe at the Sheriff’s office, and she also had a fairly impossible task of trying to keep Walt Longmire wrangled. He’s not someone who often handles direction all that well, and he needs someone to offer up some sort of organization. Ruby helped to make that possible.

We are now at the point in the series production where the final days are within the line of sight, and the final scenes at the famed Red Pony have already been filmed. Filming altogether will be wrapped soon, which means that an epic wrap party should come after that! Following that, there will be a chance for the editors and the folks over in post-production to really get started on making these episodes what you actually see when you turn on Netflix leading up to the big premiere of the show a little bit later this year in September or October.

No matter how Longmire ends, we do think that its reputation is in tact as one of television’s great mystery series, one that combines a tremendous sense of geography with interesting characters and a tone that is uniquely its own. In between Walt the complicated hero and the support of the Native American community, there hasn’t been a show out there quite like it.
