Shadowhunters season 2 episode 14 video: Simon, Jace, and the Seelie Queen
What is going on here can be best described as the classic case of a love triangle, and of two people not wanting to say what is really on their mind. Simon may be volunteering himself to go on the mission with Jace and Clary in order to help make it to the Seelie Queen, but there is more there. On some level, he doesn’t want the two alone together for that period of time. He may trust Clary, but he also knows that she kept a secret from him in terms of Jace not being related to Valentine. She gave him a reason to have some sort of unconscious paranoia, and this could be the payoff for it.
Meanwhile, for Jace the feeling is the opposite — he certainly knows that there are feelings there on some level for Clary, and he probably relishes the chance to have time alone with her. Simon appearing is a threat to that, and he doesn’t want to have it happen.
Clary, in the middle of everything, is oblivious to what is going on with the two. She just wants to achieve the mission, and feels like Simon has value. Also, she is aware that there is absolutely nothing that can be done in order to actually stop Simon from tagging along and realizes that it’s better to just let him come.
By the end of this episode, you have to wonder if this level of closeness will send either Simon or Jace over the edge. We are getting closer now to the midway point of season 2B, and by the end of this batch of episodes, you have to imagine that feelings could be coming out in the open. The aftermath of some of these confessions will in turn likely set the stage for season 3, whatever that looks like.
Remember that Shadowhunters season 2 episode 14 has the potential to also be exciting because of the Seelie Queen herself, even if her casting (provided she appears) is being kept under a very heavy veil.
