Following tonight’s finale, is a RuPaul’s Drag Race season 10 renewal in the cards? Let’s just say that there isn’t anything to worry about there.
Earlier this spring, VH1 officially renewed the long-running reality competition (which previously aired on Logo) for a tenth season, and that this season will air at some point in 2018. This is coming off of one of the show’s most-successful seasons to date, one that had itself a rather enormous following especially on social media. (We’re be hard-pressed in order to think about a week in which the show wasn’t trending on social media.)
At the time of the show’s renewal, here is what RuPaul had to say in a statement:
“As we celebrate a Decade of Drag, we’ll continue to tell universal stories of the tenacity of the human spirit … Now more than ever, we rely on the power of love, laughter and creativity to combat fear and darkness.”
What’s the biggest reason for the show’s long-term success? A big part of it we think is the show’s optimistic message — to go along with that further, there is also so much humor and fun on the show. While there are a ton of other reality competitions out there, none of them capture the tone of this one. With it on VH1, there is now a much bigger platform for people to eventually discover it as well.
If there is one thing that we’d advise the show to do, it’s to stick mostly to its original premise and do its best in the process to avoid any sort of big casting gimmicks or any of the other pitfalls that often do turn up for reality shows after a certain length of time. One thing that we do like is that there is a reasonably amount of time between flagship seasons, mostly because that offers up everyone a chance to miss the show before it does eventually return.
