What could The Originals season 5 premiere date be? Speculation ahead

Following tonight’s finale, what could The Originals season 5 premiere date be? It’s never too early to start asking the questions.

Unfortunately, it may be a little too early to be able to start offering up some answers on this subject, given that we’re in June and the new season is, at the earliest, still more than six months into the future. The Originals is not on the schedule for the CW in the fall, and even if one of their new series tanks in the ratings, it’s hard to envision them throwing this show onto the schedule before January. There wouldn’t be any time to promote it!

There are effectively two different time periods that The Originals should consider when it comes to the future of the series.

1. Winter – Think here in terms of the show starting back up in January or February, and then running its thirteen episodes from here until March. This would mean that the show would start after Crazy Ex-Girlfriend ended, which could be a good window for Joseph Morgan and company given that there tends to be a good pool of viewers around in the winter. For at least a good percentage of the country in the north, who wants to go out on a Friday night when it’s below freezing? This is the perfect show to introduce for that.

2. Spring – Meanwhile, bringing the show on the air in March or April sets it up to be structured much as it was this time around, with it airing past the standard end of the season into June. While this is often dodgy from a ratings point of view, The Originals fared decently, and more than that kept the majority of its audience happy throughout.

Regardless of when we do see the show back on the air, the biggest thing that matters comes from a quality perspective. Season 4 was a strong showing for the series from both an acting and writing standpoint. You got to know more about the characters, and the story was told in a way that was exciting and dramatic. If the scripts continue to come in at this level, there’s a chance for several more seasons — provided the numbers continue to stay level.
