The OC revival: Could it happen? Rachel Bilson thinks it’s possible
Nonetheless, Rachel Bilson is making it clear that an OC revival is something that she would consider … though it’s far from a guarantee since she doesn’t know how it would work. Speaking to E! News, she had the following to say on the subject:
“I’m always open to things … I don’t know what it would look like with our characters being old now. We were riding skateboards on the pier; I don’t know what they do now as 30-year-olds. But it would be nice to see everybody again.”
It almost feels like if you bring the show back at this point, there are only two different options: Make it into The Real Housewives of Orange Country but more serious, go in a Dynasty direction where everyone is super-successful, or wait another few years and do a reboot with many of the original characters as parents to their own set of teenagers. That’s the Girl Meets World model.
Ultimately, to us an OC revival is the sort of thing that feels best suited to be some sort of move that airs over the course of two hours one summer. It doesn’t feel like there’s enough metaphorical juice in the tank to extend the franchise beyond that, but it would be fun to see many of the original characters back again in some way.
If you do miss Bilson, you can check her out over on Nashville in an arc as Alyssa, a strategic planner for many of the artists on the Highway 65 label. Meanwhile, Ben McKenzie is over on Gotham as a regular, many of the other actors have their own recurring and guest-starring gigs on some other shows. This is a very busy gang, so it is rather difficult to think of ways in which to make things work.
