There is no longer any need to wonder about the future of The X Factor season 14 — it’s all systems go for Simon Cowell and the judging panel!
Sources confirm that the show officially started filming this week in Liverpool for the new season, or at least the audition stages where the judges comment on the performances. Previously, hopefuls had a chance to do some sort of audition for producers, whether it be at an open call or through some other measure. You do have to remember, however cynical you may be, that there are many performers found on the show these days through recruitment. With the talent pool being what it is, there are only so many super-talented singers that you are going to find just by having calls where people actively decide that they want to sit in a line and audition.
Sure, there was also at one point a little bit of indecision regarding who among the judges was going to be coming back, but in the end, we have the same panel for the first time in years as Sharon Osbourne, Nicole Scherzinger, Louis Walsh, and Simon Cowell are back alongside host Dermot O’Leary to find talent.
At this point, the problem with The X Factor is not really the judges, and nor is it that they’re finding terrible talent. It’s mostly just that in 2017, the idea of needing a show like this to become a star is a little archaic, and because we’ve all seen this show so many times before in the past, there is not all that much that it can bring to the table anymore that is surprising. Whether it be YouTube or several other talent competitions on the air, there are just so many other resources out there for people to be discovered. The show doesn’t have as much of the special sauce anymore.
With all of that said, we will be the first to say that we do continue to find the show and its contestants entertaining, and the number of live shows it offers ultimately makes the end product better than The Voice.
