The Walking Dead season 8: Steven Yeun open to return
Speaking per the Daily Telegraph, Yeun (who plays the part of Glenn on the AMC show) made it very clear that a return to the show is something that he’d be interested in doing, provided that the circumstances around it are ones that make sense:
“I will leave it open to what makes sense … I wouldn’t want anybody to force anything but if it makes sense, then I am totally down.”
The big question you have to wonder is how in the world do you bring his character back in a way that makes sense? That’s not an easy thing to figure out by any means, given that Glenn’s death at the start of season 7 was pretty definitive and there was no hiding under a dumpster to be done here. You can bring in flashbacks or dream sequences, but as much as we like Yeun and appreciate his work, it’s probably better off that we don’t end up seeing him moving forward. If we were to see him, the downside of that would be that his death wouldn’t have the same impact that it does right now with him no longer being part of the cast. You want these sort of moments to matter on a show like this, since death should feel like a separation from this world. It’s freeing in its own way just because this world is so chaotic; Glenn being gone marks a change of course for many characters (mostly Maggie), and they should have an opportunity to continue that.
The Walking Dead season 8 is currently filming in the Atlanta area in preparation for the show premiering this fall on AMC. There will be some new faces that you meet in the months to come, and hopefully some of them will help to compensate in part for some of the people that you lose (though let’s be honest here — it’s pretty impossible to compensate for the loss of a character like Glenn).
Would you be open to seeing Steven Yeun again on The Walking Dead, and if so, is there anything that you’d like to see especially from Glenn? Be sure to share in the comments!
