Absentia: Five reasons for TNT to pick up Stana Katic series
Do we think there are interested parties? Sure, and for the same of this article, we want to highlight a network that should be interested (we can’t speak to if they are): TNT. The cable network is known for drama (hence their use of the “We Know Drama” tagline for many years), and they’ve also told many stories about strong women in and around law enforcement. Take a look at The Closer and Major Crimes.
Beyond just that, though, we’ve come up with five other reasons why TNT would be the ideal Absentia home, whether it premiere there this fall or at some other point.
1. Castle audience – The network has been a syndicated home for Katic’s previous series, and there is already a fan base there. Why not extend that with something new and original. It would take less effort to introduce the show into this network home than others.
2. Tonal similarities – While TNT was once known for procedurals, they have since moved on into more serialized fare with Animal Kingdom, The Last Ship, and Claws. Absentia fits that billing, though it has the law-enforcement angles that fans of the network of old will appreciate it, as well.
3. Social buzz – We would expect the show to play very well if it’s marketed similar to how we’ve seen it tackled on social media — everyone loves a good mystery show, especially in the social media age. TNT absolutely could use some more shows that are social-media friendly.
4. Ratings expectations – Absentia should be a great creative fit and a fairly-instant commercial hit for this network, especially if that aforementioned social campaign plays well.
5. Edgier material – Let’s face it — there’s more crazy stuff that can be done on cable than on your standard network show.
Bonus reason – It’s a show that will make many people entertained out there. We’ve seen the first episode, and while we can’t say anything about it or give any plot elements away, we do think that Stana fans old and new will be happy with the end result.

I would love to see TNT pick up this show. Having Stana back on TV would be awesome! She is a great actress! When will we know!

TNT would be perfect. Seems the show is a bit edgier than most TNT shows but then the opportunity to see Stana act in another show would be well worth it!! Yes, let’s get it done soon!!

Would welcome TNT to pick up Absentia! The story line, the international make-up of the cast, the location of filming, the production value at first glance – all support my vote for the series to be included in the 2017 Fall season offerings.

I am relying on the reactions of people who saw the episode in Monte Carlo. Their reactions seem to indicate that this episode is very hard edged. If TNT is to run this sort of program they are going to have to make some big decisions. Absentia sounds much more hard edged than anything they have normally run. This program appears to be more suited to streaming video.

Yes, definitely TNT (my go to network). I agree any place but ABC (I have not watched this network since the Stana disaster). However, any network would be lucky to have such a brilliant woman.

Absentia is way more different than Castle, it has lots of dark and violent moments. THis is more a cable show.

It’s all about the money. What the Absentia production is asking and how much TNT can make. That’s why we don’t see many quality European products on tv.

After the disgusting “Crusade” affair in 98–99, I have trouble trusting TNT, but I suppose after almost 20 years, it’s not the same pack of suits it was then. And since the show is in the can, if they start it, they’ll want to finish it.

TNT is exactly the network that I was thinking of too. With Rizzoli and Isles having ended, Absintia would be a great fit. Good Behavior does very well and I would call that pretty edgy. Absentia would be a perfect fit and huge success for TNT!

TNT would be a perfect fit for Absentia. The stars alone should be the reason for picking up this show. Heard nothing but raves about the first episode. Hope we USA fans don’t get cheated out of Stana Katic’s magnificent acting in anything she does. Horrible what ABC did to this lady. Yes, a perfect fit for TNT.

I had suggested TNT once I heard there were some scenes that might not be suitable for network. TNT used to show Castle reruns 5 days a week for a very long time and then quit for the last two months. That heightened my thoughts on them getting Absentia. Animal Kingdom is on TNT so Absentia would certainly fit. Just announce it already.

TNT would be perfect for Absentia. USA network as well. They both have some cutting edge dramas and with cable you aren’t as restricted in your content as you are on network television. They both get my vote ??

Yes, TNT or USA would be perfect, other regular networks if possible but not ABC.

Never want to have to watch a new show on ABC after the disaster they turned Castle in to
Excited to hear where it ends up though!!

I don’t think she was let go, she didn’t want to go on after eight seasons. She didn’t get along with her co-star either.

ABC wouldn’t touch it. That would be admitting that they were wrong.
