The Big Brother Canada 5 renewal effort continues, even though there is no confirmation that the show will return to Global.
Last week, we posted a list of things that you could do in order to help the show, temporarily “on hiatus,” get a second life. Since that time, there have been many a trending topic, and there has certainly been a little bit of buzz that the show could find its way back onto the air next year. It’s not confirmed, so stick with it!
What may be a little more surprising to many of you out there (it certainly was to us when we first uncovered it earlier today) was learning about one of the show’s most surprising supporters: Former Saturday Night Live cast member Bobby Moynihan. While promoting his new comedy Me, Myself, & I for CTV up in Canada, Moyanihan had the following to say about Big Brother Canada via the Canadian Press:
“I’m not happy (the show) has been put on hold … The Canada one is better than the American one, I think. Well, as far as production value. Huge fan. Please bring it back.”
Bobby is right in that the Canadian show had the prettier house between it and the American show, and we’d go so far as to say it has consistently better casts and at times more creative competitions. The show does suffer slightly from its economics, mostly notably the lengthy product-placement sessions and the live feed outages. We proposed some time ago that the show switch over to a pay model and include America in the mix for it, but there may be far more difficult components to that than we are really privy to as of this time.
There is no firm timetable as to when Global would need to make a decision on Big Brother Canada, but given that past seasons held casting calls in the fall, this is around when we figure they would need to have something panned out given that this is a lengthy operation that takes almost the entire year.
Moynihan’s endorsement is at least a nice little bump in promotion for the show; the more people speak out, the more Global realizes that fans of Big Brother Canada won’t be forgotten.
