Master of None season 3 is no sure thing
Speaking to TV Guide, co-creator Alan Yang made it clear that for now, season 2 of the show may be it unless he and Aziz come up with further stories to tell:
“Aziz and I are always texting ideas, but we don’t know … We only want to do it if it’s something we’re really excited about. Same thing with Season 2, where we didn’t want to do the season unless we had something to say and something that we were really interested in and passionate about. I think the same will hold true with this one, and if this is it then this is it. But you never know.”
There was a wait of 18 months between the first and second seasons of the show, and the wait could be even longer for a potential third season. If you were to ask us right now, we’d say that a third season will happen just because the future is such a long span of time. Aziz is only 34 years old, so there are going to be a near-endless stream of opportunities for him to be able to do more of the show whenever he wants. Presumably the show is an unabashed success, so there is a little less of a reason to be worried about the series’ future from that vantage point. Netflix will want to bring it back, so they just have to find the story to make it happen.
One of the biggest benefits of this sort of release cycle is that distance can make the heart grow fonder, and having to wait a long time between seasons / having shorter seasons overall eliminates fatigue. This is one of the reasons why a show like Game of Thrones remains so popular entering season 7; it never drives the show into the ground with how much content it forces on you.
