Reign season 4 episode 16 (series finale) spoilers: Mary’s legacy

Reign season 4 episode 16

Are you ready for the Reign series finale to air? If you are, maybe you can help us get there cause we aren’t ready to face the facts that it’s all coming to an end. It’s been a long, emotional journey, and it’s still not all that easy to imagine that it’s going to be over. “All It Cost Her…” is the title for the last episode of the series, and there has to be a certain degree of irony there. It implies that, by some measure, the sacrifices that Mary’s made have not cost her all that much. For those who know their history, we know that this is hardly the case. She is setting herself up for a dramatic fall, one that will shape the course of her legacy.

One of the largest questions of this finale is rather clear: How far is it willing to go down the road for Mary? Will it flash forward to the very end, or just put you in a position where things are implied the rest of the way? How much of Elizabeth in power across her entire reign will it give you? This is an ambitious show, and absolutely it’s setting itself up for an ambitious ending, one that will probably leave it’self open for some discussion.

For a few more details, just take a look below:

Reign season 4 episode 16 synopsis – “Mary (Adelaide Kane) makes a decision that will change the course of history — forever shaping the fate of her nation, her crown, and her newborn son. Mary’s perilous move for her survival causes the stunning realization that perhaps she is not the only one who may not survive. Meanwhile, Elizabeth (Rachel Skarsten) steadies herself for war and will become the instigator in Mary’s demise while later realizing she and Mary might be more similar than either thought. Dan Jeannotte, Jonathan Goad, Celina Sinden, Megan Follows, Craig Parker, Ben Geurens, Rose Williams, Will Kemp and Spencer MacPherson star. Holly Dale directed the episode written by April Blair and Laurie McCarthy.”

The big thing to celebrate about Reign as a series is the simple fact that it managed to do something that very few CW shows have done: Deliver a true costume drama from beginning to end. There were a lot of challenges here in between the cost and the different actors coming in and out of the show, but it found a way to persevere until we got to this point.
