Power season 4 goes in unique direction with promotional campaign
If you click on the URL here courtesy of the show’s official account, you get directed over to their Twitter page where you have an opportunity to tweet out something that will give you access to a new video flashing back at the character’s history. The options are Tommy, Tasha, Kanan, or Angela, and through each selection you get a few reminders of what their relationship was with James St. Patrick prior to his arrest at the end of season 3.
What this does for Power and for Starz is pretty darn brilliant: It gets people engaging about the show in a way that they weren’t previously, while also offering them some content in return. It’s not necessarily new footage, but there’s still value in the packaging.
For the record, of these four characters it really only feels right now as though Tasha is remotely on his side. Tommy’s more out for his own self-interest now, Kanan is looking to take Ghost down from within, and Angela is the person responsible for arresting Ghost in the first place! Tasha has more skin in the game given their personal history, plus the fact that they have children together. Ghost may be able to help Tariq emerge from his abyss, but that’s not going to be easy, either, given the hold that Kanan seems to have on him right now.
The one other major thing to note here with Power and this campaign is that they actually don’t need it, given the show’s success already. This is the top-rated show on Starz, and there are no signs that it’s going to be slowing down moving forward. This is just a way to make the rich richer, which is why you gotta salute it — even if it is ultimately unnecessary.
