Poldark season 3: Eleanor Tomlinson on Demelza, Ross’ relatability
While the couple’s struggles are sad at times, especially since Demelza doesn’t deserve much of her treatment, there is also an air of relatability to it. Speaking per the Independent, Tomlinson remarks that the imperfections of the Ross – Demelza relationship are what make it popular, and not so much just the romantic ideals that are present across many period dramas:
“…What people love about Demelza and Ross is that their marriage is very real … They have a lot of obstacles we all face… there’s always another woman who drives the wife mad.”
Hopefully, most relationships don’t have to actually endure some of what Ross and Demelza have over the past year or two, or what they are facing next with the identity of Elizabeth’s child a mystery.
For those of you who are looking for some early news on Poldark season 4, Eleanor also had the following to pass along on that subject:
“We’ve got lots of new cast this series. We’re becoming the golden oldies now. It’s a bit strange. We’re always saying to [writer] Debbie [Horsfield] we are going to be in it, aren’t we? You’re not to put a grey wig on me, are you? We don’t want to age.”
Ultimately, the characters of Ross and Demelza will age over the course of the series, but don’t expect it to happen all that quickly given that there are so many different issues that need to transpire more in the present. There are so many stories that will be told in the books to come that there’s no hurry — at least for now.
