Summer status report: Where is Wayward Pines season 3?
Unfortunately, at the moment there is shockingly still no formal word as to if the series, executive produced by M. Night Shyamalan, is going to get another kick at the can. The bad news is that it’s already been confirmed effectively that there is no season 3 airing on Fox this summer. Yet, Fox also hasn’t formally canceled the show. They are keeping their options open for more, though the further it gets between the end of the last season and the start of the new one, it could be all the more challenging to get viewers to come back for more.
The last time that Wayward Pines aired, it was during the summer of 2016 — at that point, the show did absolutely set the stage for more episodes as a battle against the Abbies took center stage. It was also clear at the time that the people behind the scenes at the show wanted to do one more run of episodes.
Unfortunately, here may be the problem: There isn’t a huge incentive to bring the show back when it didn’t draw great ratings the last time that it was on the air, with it getting around a 0.7 in the 18-49 demographic for the majority of its episodes. It’s enough to leave it on the bubble for the summer, but if this was a fall series, there is almost no doubt that this is a rating that would lead to it getting canceled.
The only thing left to do at this point is hope that a Wayward Pines season 3 comes on the air someday, and that the powers that be over at Fox are interested enough in continuing the story that they eventually order a little bit more. If the show does come back at this point, odds are that it will not be until the summer of 2018 when it graces the small screen once more. The ratings are definitely not good enough to risk it coming on the air during the fall / spring season; it will take away from a show that does have a little more potential at the end of the day.

I watched both seasons and season 3 has a lot of potential development with the Abbies and remaining characters. The dead can always be resurrected to bring some old characters back from season 1 and/or 2. My family is patiently waiting wishing we had a 2017 to look forward to; please don’t cancel. Let’s get the Pines back in action.
