The Crown season 2 spoilers: Are Matt Smith, Claire Foy done filming?

Crown season 2

Given that the first season was compelling entertainment at its finest, it goes without saying that for The Crown season 2, anticipation is high.

With that, isn’t it nice to know that filming for the Netflix series is almost done in its entirety? Speaking at a recent For Your Consideration event, both Matt Smith and Claire Foy made it clear that the second season has been wrapped filming-wise, other than some reshoots that are coming up.

As for some further news when it comes to the story’s content, one thing to know (per Variety) is that the second season is going to cover a large span of time (think around ten years) — which makes a good bit of sense, given that when season 3 rolls around there will be new actors in the roles of Philip and Elizabeth.

Before getting around to that, though, let’s focus on the present! Per the aforementioned publication, Smith notes that the story is a little bit “hairier,” and that Philip will be featured far more prominently this time around. Given that he’s an exemplary performer, this should be rather lovely for those out there who do still think of him more as The Doctor than any of the other work that he’s done.

This season will also have its fair share of harrowing scenes, one that Foy notes she would “never want to relive.” Smith opened up further about some of the work that went into preparing for his role, which gave him a better sense of understanding and respect for the way that the Royal Family handles privacy, especially in this era where so many celebrities are willing to share anything and everything about their lives:

“I learned so much about my own country that I didn’t know which made me feel a bit stupid. In a world where celebrity is so much at the front of our lives, and is so immediate and you’re so communicated at all the time — Trump is a perfect example — the royal family have managed to keep that distance.”

The second season of The Crown could premiere on Netflix later this year; for now, be prepared to see the show be a force at the Primetime Emmy Awards later this year given the typical love for period dramas and the Royals that exists within US awards shows.
