Vikings season 5 filming is done; now, the wait for premiere date begins

Vikings season 5 filming

There are few cable shows out there with the same anticipation around them as Vikings season 5; unfortunately, though, there is not much in the way of news about a premiere date much to everyone’s disappointment (ours included since this is our favorite show on television right now).

The big news we do have for you today is that production on the 20-episode season 5 (another super-sized season!) is complete, and the next order of business now is waiting to see when History wants to make the announcement for when we will get to see these new episodes. No matter when they make the premiere date official, we know that the viewership will be ready for them. There are few series out there who have the same live+same day ratings success as this show does and even following the departure of Vikings star Travis Fimmel (we still miss you Ragnar), the numbers really did not fall. The show has one of the most loyal followings out there and it’s easy to see why: Brilliant story telling matched with incredible actors.

For us we feel that History can really benefit from airing Vikings sooner rather then later and here’s why: With the lack of quality scripted content in the summer, especially in terms of shows geared towards adult audiences, shouldn’t there be a push for more of the series during this time? We do have some great exceptions here and there like Suits and The Last Ship, but with many of the major networks, you do get a sense that they are favoring more unscripted programming these days due to rising costs and smaller pools of viewers. To us, that means that summer TV programming is prime real estate to snag a bigger audience since there is nothing competing with it. Just because it’s nice out, that doesn’t mean that fans won’t stay in and watch great TV and Vikings fans have proven that they will watch live no matter when it’s on.

Whenever the show does premiere, be prepared for it to air once more in batches, with one group of ten episodes airing before a large break; following that, another ten episodes will come down the line. Whether it be Ivar’s rise to power or virtually anything to do with Lagertha, there is a great deal of content to look forward to in Vikings season 5. With the status of season 6 uncertain, it’s best to enjoy the show and everything that it has to offer in the now.
