Supergirl season 3 premiere date hopes for Melissa Benoist, cast

Supergirl season 3 premiere date

When could the Supergirl season 3 premiere date be for The CW? The focus of this article is figuring that out!

It makes sense to effectively begin this piece by getting one of the biggest formalities out of the way: There will be a season 3. The Melissa Benoist series was renewed for another batch of episodes by the network earlier this spring, which wasn’t a surprise given its popularity both stateside and also around the world. There is still a good bit of story left to tell with some of these characters, especially since there is arguably a deeper bench with the world of Superman / Supergirl than almost any other DC Comics character out there.

As for the premiere date, the first thing to remember here is that The CW isn’t a network that tends to hurry things along nearly as much as other network shows. They intentionally wait a week or two into the fall before launching their shows for a couple of different reasons. First and foremost, they don’t want to run their shows directly against other premieres. They are confident enough in their product that they’re okay with allowing you to check out some premieres elsewhere before deciding that you want to come back and check out the latest on Kara Danvers. Also, they want there to be some shorter hiatuses during the season. If they premiered at the start of the fall, there would be another week or two during the year with repeats. For whatever reason, a longer summer hiatus is typically easier to take than one in the midst of the arc of the season.

The premiere dates to watch for Supergirl are October 2, October 9, and potentially even October 16 if The CW really wants to start things late. (The series will remain on Monday nights at 8:00 p.m. Eastern.) If you think back to season 2, the show premiered on October 10, which was actually later than Arrow and The Flash. Given that the show also filmed one less episode in the second season, that made some sense. Also, it’s understandable that the network wants to kick off their fall season with The Flash given that this is their highest-rated show.
