Is Chicago Justice new tonight on NBC? Latest ratings report
While the show remains in a holding pattern for the time being, there are some reasons to remain optimistic just on the basis of live+same day ratings alone. Think of things this way.
1. Live+same day demo averages – Over the course of the first season, Chicago Justice brought in a 1.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic as a whole. This is only down a tenth from the Chicago Med season 2 demo average. Meanwhile, this is the same average that Timeless drew in its first season, it’s better than the average for Taken, and it is better by a pretty good margin than Shades of Blue. If this show aired next to another One Chicago series, its ratings would be even better.
2. Franchise viability – Having this show only expands the universe, and there wasn’t any evidence that viewers would get tired of the franchise just because there were four shows on the air.
3. Timely storytelling – In moving forward now into the future, one of the great things that the entire Dick Wolf universe does is that it gives us a chance to see stories that are as relevant as anything can be to what is happening in the world. They are a reflection of the times, and that is something you’ll miss from a courtroom angle if the show is not ultimately brought back at the end of the day.
So when could NBC potentially renew Chicago Justice? At the upfront presentation, all indications suggested that there would be a decision in the coming weeks. Maybe some of this is tied to DVR ratings, or to seeing how well-received some of the network’s new series are. After all, NBC may decide that they need a little bit of insurance in the event that some of the other shows don’t end up going well.
