CarterMatt Quick Hits: Trial & Error renewed; Wynonna Earp trailer; Raven’s Home casting

Wynonna Earp trailer

There are several different stories worth getting into in this edition of CarterMatt Quick Hits, but let’s begin with Trial & Error finally getting a season 2 renewal!

The popular — but somewhat under-viewed — series featuring 3rd Rock from the Sun alum John Lithgow in its first season was one of the few shows still on the bubble after the conclusion of upfronts earlier this week. Yet, Deadline now reports that the show will officially be coming back for a second season. However, Lithgow will not return, which makes some sense if you watched the first season of the show. What makes the format of this series so appealing is that you can attract some reasonably big names promising them only a season-long arc; there isn’t the same sort of massive commitment that they would get elsewhere.

Now, the problem comes in trying to find a right place to schedule the show in the midst of some of the other stuff happening on the schedule. To call it crowded would be making one of the biggest understatements imaginable.

One of the only remaining NBC shows out there with its fate still uncertain is Chicago Justice, which premiered earlier this spring to so-so ratings and currently outranks some shows the network renewed in the ratings.

As for some further news from the day…

The new season premieres next month on the network, and this is one of those things where the less you say, the better it effectively is given that there is a little more of a mystery this way.

Raven’s Home casting – The That’s So Raven spin-off now has another familiar face coming on board. According to a report from E! News, Jonathan McDaniel will be returning in the role of Devon Carter, Raven’s former love interest on the show. In the new version, they will have children together, but they have also been divorced for a little while. Consider that some of the most depressing Disney Channel related news you’re going to find today.

Raven’s Home will premiere later this summer on the Disney Channel.
