Will a Big Brother Canada 6 happen? There’s hope, but no confirmation

Canada 6

Will Big Brother Canada 6 be coming to Global next year? There’s always hope for more of the franchise, but for now, there’s no confirmation.

If you do look at the ratings for season 5, it’s clear that there have been some shows with better numbers. Not only that, but many imported shows from the US perform better. It’s not a smash hit in the country, but it does still have very loyal fans. This is one reason why it will most likely be back for another go, but it’s not the only one.

When you think in terms of cost, this is a show that effectively pays for itself. When you think about the number of episodes the show has over a season, it easily pays for its prize money and then some. It airs commercials breaks during the show, and practically has commercials during the show. There are more avenues for promotion here than virtually any other Canadian series out there, especially in terms of the sponsors who have their products thrown about the live feeds. Those are free, but there are advertisements associated with them, as well.

Are there little quibbles you can have with the product placement? Sure, but it does keep the show on the air and when Big Brother Canada is going great, it’s one of the best editions of the franchise. This was an especially fun season with a good cast, some interesting gameplay, and one of the best rivalries out there in Kevin versus Karen.

One thing that probably could help the franchise going into season 6 would be to go relatively back to basics — bring in all newbies once again from different places and walks of life, and give a show that is extremely celebratory of this great country and some of people who live in it … with plenty of drama and gameplay at the same time. It’ll be coming around at the same time as the Winter Olympics, so there are ways to play that help. One of the big issues of all-star seasons is that things have a tendency to become rather meta, and they strip the show of some of what makes it organic. There is a place for it, but it should be a rarity and it’s effectively been two seasons since there was a house full of people without some exposure to fame before. Bring in more of the social experiment and focus on the casting. Clearly, there’s a lot to celebrate there.
