MasterChef Junior interview: Cydney Sherman talks season 5 journey

Cydney Sherman

On this past episode of MasterChef Junior, Cydney Sherman found herself eliminated just before the final four. Nonetheless, she had a tremendous journey, one that included some really high highs in the kitchen being dubbed “the next Christina Tosi” at one point by judge Gordon Ramsay.

So what did Cyndey have to say herself about her performance this season? In a recent interview conducted by email, the young chef-in-the-making discussed her achievements this season, and also the part that she really enjoyed being a part of the most.

CarterMatt – How did you feel about making it so far in the competition?

Cydney Sherman -I feel very proud of myself because when I auditioned I had no expectations of actually getting on the show.  The fact that I made it as far as I did is pretty incredible and I am so grateful that I had the chance to be a part of it. The top 6 is pretty good!

Was there any type of food you wish you could’ve made in the kitchen?

I would have liked to have been able to make macaroons in the macaroon challenge.  They are one of my favorite things to make and I have worked really hard to get them right.

What was the most difficult part of doing the team challenge from last night?

The most difficult part for me was handling the pressure.  I am really hard on myself and I had never lead a team before.  It just got the best of me but I am still really proud of myself.

What is the one part of the season that you enjoyed the most?

Probably when it was down to the top 12.  The competition became even more intense but I really bonded with my chef friends and I learned so much.

Now that you’ve done the show, what are some of your culinary dreams going to be from here?

I would like to eventually have my own business where I can have a small coffee and pastry shop.  Until then I would like to continue to visit great restaurants and meet as many chefs as possible.   I would love to be able to volunteer in a great kitchen or be on another cooking show.

Gordon called you a ‘young Christina Tosi’ at one point in the season. What was the best piece of advice Christina gave you?

Christina taught me to stay focused and to dream big.  She is my biggest inspiration and I would love to work with her someday.
