Arrested Development season 5: Jason Bateman signs on!
In a post on Twitter, the actor confirmed that he will be heading back to Newport Beach and beyond for another season at Netflix. While this is great, at this rate it’s possible that season 5 will air in 2035. The show’s on a very slow trajectory when it comes to casting some of its big names, and there have been rumors aplenty as to how to make things work. One of those is to utilize flashbacks and cast younger actors, in addition to not featuring every cast member in every episode.
When looking at the cast across the board, you have many actors working on other projects. Will Arnett has both Flaked and The Gong Show, Jeffrey Tambor is winning every awards show known to man on Transparent, and then Tony Hale is a regular on Veep. While Portia de Rossi recently left Scandal, one of the main reasons was due to a desire to step away from acting as much to focus on some other ventures at this point in her life. Can you get her to sign on?
Whenever it premieres, it’s safe to assume that Arrested Development season 5 will be a slice of TV heaven. The first three seasons of the show are considered some of the funniest in television history; while season 4 is certainly flawed, there is still much that it ended up bringing to the table. The Gob episode is one of the best creations of any comedy in recent memory.
Ultimately, if you do love Arrested Development, continue to hold out hope. It’s fun to joke about the show taking a billion years to come on the air, but this is a huge sign that the show will be back. At this point, it is mostly just a question of when.
