Riverdale season 2: Ross Butler not returning as Reggie, Casey Cott promotion!

new ReggieIn the wake of the finale last night, The CW is busting out some major Riverdale season 2 news already and that included a new version of Reggie!

Recently, it was reported that the role of Reggie was going to be recast after Ross Butler found himself immersed in a certain pop-culture phenomenon known as 13 Reasons Why. TVLine confirms his exit today, and we have Charles Melton of Glee and American Horror Story: Hotel (clearly a Ryan Murphy favorite) stepping into the role. Expect a good chunk of Reggie’s story throughout season 2; given his rivalry with Archie, this is a story the writers want to dive into.

For the immediate future, you better expect that Archie has other things on his mind — after all, the guy’s father is facing a life-or-death situation following the events of the finale! You better think that this is something that will be addressed throughout season 2. The fact that Archie would continue to undergo some further terrors at the hands of Reggie in this situation is a strong indication as to what sort of show this is — an entertaining one, but also one that puts its characters through hell. Doesn’t that just make the good moments all the sweeter though?

As for some other notable news from today, also be aware of the fact that Kevin Keller will be around in a more permanent capacity moving forward! In a separate article TVLine also confirms that Casey Cott will be coming back as a regular as Betty’s close friend. He’s a relatively recent addition to the Archie Comics, but he made a significant impact in the first season. The big surprise on this end largely is that he wasn’t named a regular right out of the gate in season 1. Then again, this is a show with a fairly large cast given that you’ve got all of the kids, and then some of the parents — which is worth a reminder since the parents on Riverdale are easily some of the most terrible parents in the history of television.

More details about Riverdale season 2 will be announced a little bit later this month, as The CW will hold their upfront presentation event in New York City. Expect some more teasers.

What do you think of these announcements — do they make you more or less excited for Riverdale season 2 to air? (Don’t know why it’d make you less excited, but still.)

One other thing to check out now is a full look from yesterday at the events of the crazy season 1 finale. Hopefully, this continues to get the discussion going. (Photo: The CW.)
