Reign season 4 episode 13 spoilers: Mary vs. Darnley

Reign season 4 episode 13

As if Mary, Queen of Scots had not been through enough, Reign season 4 episode 13 will feature her going head to head against her own husband. It’s Adelaide Kane’s character in one corner, and Lord Darnley in another. This is an incredibly depressing situation, not to mention dangerous given the very-real chance that someone ends up dead by the episode of the hour. That is without even thinking / considering the future of some of these people, which is known in history. (Unfortunately, these characters are not in Timeless and cannot travel back and forth to figure out their futures. Also, RIP Timeless.)

This episode is entitled “Coup de Grace,” and it’s easy to understand why when you consider for a moment just what Darnley is up to.

Reign season 4 episode 13 synopsis – “Darnley (Will Kemp) teams up with John Knox (Jonathan Goad) to strip Mary (Adelaide Kane) of her throne, which will leave a close friend of Mary’s dead. Elizabeth (Rachel Skarsten) must banish Gideon (Ben Geurens) from court at the request of her future husband (guest star Steve Byers), while Charles (Spencer MacPherson) takes a bold stance against his brother Henri (guest star Nick Slater).”

This is such a different situation for Mary that further cements the stark differences between this marriage and her previous one with Francis, which turned her into a very different person both before it happened and then after it was over at the same time. This situation will produce similar results, and then also set into motion events that will define the end of the season and consequently the series.

Quick programming note – This episode will be the last one for the month of May. The show will take off Memorial Day Weekend, but be back in early June to start wrapping things up. No sense sacrificing ratings for a holiday, even in the final season!
