Hawaii Five-0 season 7 finale spoilers: A slice of Steve / Danny fun

Steve / Danny

With the Hawaii Five-0 season 7 finale likely to bring some serious stuff to your doorstep tonight, why not take a moment to have fun? This is effectively what the sneak peek below is all about — you’ve got some humor, but there’s also a few good updates in here as well.

For one, we get to hear that Steve’s liver is doing fine, and that Danny isn’t done referring to it as his own liver thanks to the transplant at the end of this past season. Also in here you’ve got the arrival of Danny’s son Charlie to work, where he’s being looked after while Rachel works on her divorce. This leads in turn to some more funny interactions when McGarrett decides the best thing to do to ease a hungry stomach is to go take Charlie over to the vending machine and he can pick out some more of what he wants to snack on. He and Danny then get into a little spat about it.

The Steve / Danny banter scenes are some of the best in television, with there being two primary reasons for it.

1. The writing – It feels completely natural, and the sort of ribbing that guys on the job would actually give each other. It’s not so clinical and exposition-based. It legitimately feels like they enjoy working together, and giving each other a hard time in the process.

2. The performances – Give a ton of credit here to Alex O’Loughlin and Scott Caan for fantastic chemistry. They’ve built that up over time, and you want to think as a result of this that they are the best of friends off-screen. They probably spend more time together working on this show than many friends do in real life. There are long work days here, and also 25 episodes to go along with it. Other than ScorpionHawaii Five-0 produces more episode a season than any other scripted network show on television.

In looking beyond this preview, tonight’s episode will feature the return of the sex-trafficking storyline from earlier this season. Things will get emotional, and there will be a ton of high-octane action. Consider this preview the calm before the storm.
