Blindspot season 3 renewal confirmed; Jaimie Alexander series returning!
Today, NBC confirmed that they are bringing back the series starring Jaimie Alexander and Sullivan Stapleton for a third season. There are no specifics as of yet regarding episode count, but for the time being, isn’t it best to just celebrate the fact that it is coming back?
Blindspot first emerged as a major part of the NBC brand last season, but there were some questions this year about whether or not it would stand a significant ratings drop-off in a new timeslot. Part of the reason for its additional order now may stem from some incredible ratings consistency this spring. Since returning from a month-long hiatus in March, the series has not posted lower than a 0.9 rating, which likely makes executives think that the show has found its floor.
As for whether or not it will still in this Wednesday timeslot, that remains to be seen. We could envision it moving to Thursdays depending on the future of Chicago Med, or maybe even on Fridays if NBC wants to establish some more stable programming there. The biggest thing that worked against it this season is probably the time it was on the air. This is a show that probably functions the best in a 9:00 or 10:00 p.m. Eastern spot, given that it’s not really meant to cater to families or that sort of crowd. Its stories are a little bit more adult and mature.
The exciting thing here is that this renewal will ultimately offer up some great opportunities to see more of Jane Doe’s history, explore her relationship with Weller, and deliver on some more high-octane TV. We do think that there is a whole lot more that this show has to give beyond just what we’ve seen so far.
Pending a surprise announcement, season 3 will be debuting this fall.
