Ratings: The Originals season 4 keeps fighting; Blue Bloods finale up

Blue Bloods season 8

We know that at the moment, the main event when discussing Friday ratings is the status of The Originals season 4. Why? It’s the show most on the bubble at the moment. We were still curious about the Blue Bloods finale given that it was coming off of a series-low rating, so these two shows are the focus today a little bit more than anything else.

Ready to dive into the discussion? Well, here we go…

The Originals holds steady – The bad news is that after starting things off with consistent  0.4 ratings, the show is now around a 0.3 many weeks in a row. It’s at least not dropping further, right? It’s hard to get a read on what The CW wants to do here, but we wouldn’t put it past the network to order another 10-13 episode season to send off this show and the entire Julie Plec vampire franchise, at least for the time being.

Blue Bloods ends on a slightly higher note – After posting a series-low 0.8 rating last week, the CBS show recovered slightly with a 0.9 rating for the finale. If there is some bad news, it’s mostly that the show did not really recover all of what it lost. We don’t think it’s in any danger even next season, given two main things that you have to remember: This show draws huge total viewership still, it runs in syndication, and it does this well without any real promotion.

Other odds and ends – Shark Tank won the night with a 1.0, but the fact that this won the night really says something about the current state of Fridays at this point in the year. Clearly, the majority of people out there are more interested in doing some other stuff. We do wish that The Toy Box was doing better than a 0.6 rating, since we find the show really fun and it would be great to see it return with another opportunity to shine. Because of when it premiered, we don’t really think that there are that many people who even know what the show is.
