Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders season 2 episode 10 review: Emily Prentiss gets involved

Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders season 2 episode 10 review

The first thing that we can say within our Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders season 2 episode 10 review is three cheers for Emily Prentiss! Paget Brewster got a chance to guest star on Wednesday night’s new episode; not only that, but she was literally dancing at the end of the episode.

One of the exciting things that we had a chance to learn over the story is that Prentiss and Clara had a history; unfortunately, it was tied to a victim in the case. She joined the IRT in an effort to get justice for their fallen former colleague, and that involved much of the team going to Taiwan to investigate killings that first happened in America well over a decade beforehand. The trail had gone cold, but overseas, the killings were starting to fit the same M.O.

Trying to solve the case was mostly by the books from the vantage point of Jack and company, given that it mostly involved them connecting some of the dots and trying to determine what this killer was up to and how they went about their business. Given that this was a case we were clued in on at the very start in terms of who was responsible, there wasn’t much drama in that department. Instead, this was an episode about procedure, about seeing the team get innovative, and also about getting to that moment of Prentiss and Clara dancing at the very end.

Should the show be doing more when it comes to long-form storytelling at the end of the season? We certainly wish that they would, or they had moved the arc of Jack’s son closer to the end of the season. It’s understandable why it didn’t happen given that this is not the sort of show that this routinely is, but with Criminal Minds showing a willingness to shake things up, it’d be nice to see this series do more of the same. (For the record, we know that the Spencer Reid story over on the flagship show was polarizing, but even still, we applaud the risk and hope to see more of that.)

Our overall review

Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders season 2 episode 10 continued the tradition of giving you interesting cases set in turn in interesting places. We do constantly want to see Beyond Borders push itself further, and maybe that will happen as we move into next week. Grade: B.
