Following tonight’s finale, what’s coming for The Mick season 2? That’s one of the subjects worthy of discussion now.
The first thing that we should confirm right now is the sole fact that there will even be a season 2 of the Kaitlin Olson series. Fox was kind enough to make the renewal official many weeks ago; it would’ve been great if they had done the same thing for New Girl, but there are probably some other articles out there better suited to complain about that. It made sense for The Mick to get that early vote of confidence in hopes of convincing viewers that this is a show worth sticking around to watch.
Given that season 1 of the series premiered at midseason, it does make some sense that the show wait and launch season 2 at around the same time. At this point, it gives Fox something relatively reliable that they can turn to in the event that shows fizzle out in the fall — after all, you do have to expect many shows in this era to do just that. Lethal Weapon at the end of the day could end up being the only hour-long series on the network to get another season this time; the future for APB and 24: Legacy doesn’t look all that bright, and The Exorcist remains on the bubble. (It was already reported that Pitch has been canceled, which was a relative surprise given that it actually drew better reviews than any of these series.)
If there is one thing that we hope for The Mick season 2, it’s that the premiere date and time are at a place where it can get some further support beyond just being a show on the air. We are in an era now where if you want to have a successful show, you either need to have a great marketing campaign from the jump like This Is Us or a timeslot (think the early days of Scandal) where you are an extension of some other great stuff on the air. It’s hard to have an enormous hit in this modern age of television, especially when you are a comedy.
Ultimately, let’s just turn this question over to you — when do you want to see The Mick season 2 air on Fox? Be sure to sound off with your thoughts now in the comments.
