Showtime to air Oliver Stone – Vladimir Putin documentary in June

Oliver Stone

Oliver Stone is well-known for recreating famous people and historical moments through most of his movies — with Vladimir Putin, it’s a little different.

In the video below, you can see the first teaser for the director’s upcoming four-part documentary series The Putin Interviews, which will air in June. Stone interviewed the Russian leader numerous times over the course of two years, including most recently after Donald Trump’s inauguration in February. Specifically, the teaser for the event features Stone directly asking Putin why Russia interfered with the election this past fall. It’s a bold question to ask Putin to his face, and he seemed to merely chuckle in response.

Stone is known for making provocative entertainment, and word is that he had unprecedented access to Putin’s life in making this special. Maybe his history enabled that possible, since he’s never necessarily done what is conventional. We respect his talent, but is there anything that this documentary can teach us that we don’t know already? Putin is going to ultimately be responsible for his own words, and we have a hard time thinking that he will say anything that is in opposition to anything we’ve heard already. In his mind, everything that he’s done is just and makes perfect sense — it doesn’t quite matter what we think about any of it when the dust settles.

We figure that regardless of its content, this will get a ton of publicity before it premieres this summer — remember that in general, this is one of the biggest years for Showtime to date. They also have the upcoming Twin Peaks revival coming in May, and beyond that there are also new episodes of Ray Donovan coming this summer alongside the return of Episodes for the first time in over two years. You can read a little bit more about those upcoming seasons now by heading over to the link here.

For the time being, what we want to know from you are two different things.

1. What are you hoping to get out of this documentary?

2. Will you even consider watching?

Share in the comments below; once there is some more news out there about the documentary, we of course will have a little more information about that right now. (Photo: Showtime.)
