Agents of SHIELD season 4 finale spoilers: Ghost Rider returning

Ghost RiderGiven that Ghost Rider was a key component of the first part of Agents of SHIELD season 4, it’s appropriate we come full-circle.

As first reported by TVLine, Gabriel Luna is going to be reprising his role as the famed vigilante and his alter ego Robbie Reyes. He was a significant part of the first batch of episodes this season, really so much so that the entire arc of episodes was named after him. The last time we saw Robbie, he seemingly sacrifices himself for the sake of saving the world. We figured that he wasn’t actually dead, and this is a chance to see effectively where he’s been and what he could bring to a story where he is certainly needed.

If you recall the end of this past episode, we effectively learned that Aida was working to build herself her own human avatar where she can effectively disobey her original directive and destroy SHIELD once and for all. She’s only going to continue to gain power, and in the finale, the SHIELD and Aida could square off once and for all with humanity’s entire future on the line.

In getting back to Reyes, he was far and away better than we even hoped that he would be, mostly because the show found a way to humanize a character who is often over-the-top and was probably defined previously by Nicolas Cage in the future films that he did. It was a powerful narrative and way to start a story; with that in mind, we’re absolutely excited to see how all of this wraps up in the end.

Also, it makes sense that the show try to go all-out here in the final episode of the season, given that there is no guarantee at the moment that there will be another season of the show beyond it on the air. We remain hopeful that there will be at least a 13-episode final season, but it feels far too early at the moment to know one way or another. If only we could read ABC’s mind, or we had some sort of superpower that enabled us the ability to get them to make some of the decisions that we want them to make.
