Is it time for Kelly Ripa to finally have a new Live! co-host? Based on some of what’s out there now, it’s looking so.
In a new post on Twitter (see below), Ripa confirmed that we’re about a get a chance to learn who the new co-host for her show is going to be. It’s interesting in a way that we are finally getting to learn her co-host now, given that it’s been so long since she had one that we completely forgot that her not having a co-host was news. Michael Strahan departed the series last year, and since that time there have been rumors aplenty. Jeff Gordon was a name thrown around. Meanwhile, we know that Ripa is close friends with both Andy Cohen and Anderson Cooper, even though the two have some shows elsewhere.
Personally, we’d be fine if Ripa just hired teacher Richard Curtis, who did a number of memorable shows with her after winning a search for a one-off host. He was one of those rare examples of someone who found a way to make a big imprint even if he’s not a big name. We do hope that whoever is hired is someone who already does have some experience when it comes to being on the show. We don’t think that spending a lot of time trying to figure out chemistry is a good thing for this show — remember for a moment or two that this is one of the most competitive landscapes out there for daytime TV, and what this means is that if viewers don’t like what you’re doing in the early going, they may give up and go watch Netflix instead. There’s nothing altogether keeping them sitting around and watching your show because of a lack of competition.
Are you excited to learn who the new co-host is going to be, or are you like us and forgot that this search was even going on? Be sure to share in the comments below right now!
Remember that tomorrow morning, we’ll be back to spotlight the new host, in addition to questioning whether or not the producers made the right choice for the franchise’s future. (Photo: ABC.)
