How Outlander season 3 premiere date could be shaped by Power season 4 news
Let’s go ahead and dive in. Power is officially beginning on Sunday, June 25, which is slightly earlier in the year than we expected given that it started last year on July 17. Granted, the first two seasons of the show started in June, so there is a little bit of a pattern there.
Power also runs in total for ten episodes. It’s a little bit of a shorter run than Outlander, but it is one that the network will probably promote heavily given that this is a highly-rated show. If Starz uses Power in turn to promote Outlander, that’s certainly a good thing, even if we don’t know how much of an audience the two series share given their many differences.
Let’s say hypothetically now that Power airs an episode every Sunday for the entirety of its season, including on July 2 leading up to the July 4 holiday. It would actually be done airing on Sunday, August 27. In turn, the earliest Outlander could premiere, provided that there are no two-hour episodes or the network doesn’t bunch it up with Power for whatever reason, is Sunday, September 3. Like with Power, that’s a little earlier than we first thought it would premiere. If for whatever reason Starz skips the July 2 airing of Power out of fears of losing holiday viewers, the earliest Outlander could start is September 10. Both seem like viable premiere dates.
Do we have some concerns about the Emmys? Sure. That show airs on September 17, and it could be a huge ratings draw and limit Starz’s performance on the night. When we first thought that Outlander could premiere a little later in the month we thought they would want to steer clear of that; if they do premiere on September 3, however, we’re not so sure they will. Many of the viewers with Starz have the availability to watch it On-Demand or the app, so they don’t need to be watching it at 9:00 p.m. Eastern against the awards show. Even if they don’t, they may still watch Outlander live given that the show won’t be eligible for the Emmys this year. All of the episodes in season 3 will be eligible for the 2018 Emmys instead. Starz will probably not lose too many devoted fans as a result of that.

I say bring it on….the sooner the better! Looking so very forward to it’s return!!
It is a little weird to read on some posts (not here, mind you,) that if the Reunion episode wasn’t shown in the first few episodes that they were going to stop watching the show!! Why, for goodness sakes!! In the books, it doesn’t happen until Chapter 24! Those of us who started with Outlander 25 or so years ago have waited a long time for this series to happen!
Me, I am just so very happy that Diana Gabaldon is still writing more adventures of Jaime and Claire’s story. On top of that, a tv series has started from these incredible books and it is so wonderful to see the characters come to life and be so well done!!
To end my comments’ if you don’t want to wait for “the Reunion” episode, don’t! That is surely your choice! Me, after waiting all these many years, a few new episodes between the beginning of Season 3 and the “Reunuin episode” are worth waiting for!! ?
Sorry for the long post! Blessings to each of you!

Some fans are watching only for Sam and Caitriona’s interactions/chemistry and are simply not interested if the episode doesn’t feature them in the same frame. The same with the books – I’ve read many comments from people who have zero interest in Brianna, Roger, John Grey, William, history etc. and skip everything that is not about Jamie&Claire together.

The earlier the better for me! The wait is excruciating…..I can’t go 1 day without watching at least 1 episode or more, each day from S1 or S2. I’ve never experienced anything like this with any other TV series. I would love a September 3rd start to the season.

Susan, you are not alone. I am planning surgery so I will be out recovering before it starts. I know this season is going to pull me in probably worse than S1. S2 was meh.
