Leading up to today’s finale, it seems like the right time to kick off some Major Crimes season 6 premiere date speculation.
The first bit of good news that we have is simply the fact that there will be a sixth season of the show, meaning that we don’t have to worry about getting more Major Crimes episodes. Who wouldn’t want to celebrate that? While we cannot say for sure that the sixth season will be the last one, it will have the luxury (at least during the summer portion) of not airing against the barricade that is both Criminal Minds and Law & Order: SVU. We do believe that TNT wants to find a way to bring in good ratings, but the scheduling for the back half of this season is one of the most questionable moves that we’ve seen them make.
Beyond that, let’s start to get into the subject as to when Major Crimes season 6 will premiere. Based on the past four seasons, odds are we will see a start date in the second week in June. The first season is a bit of an aberration given how it followed The Closer, but from season 2 onward, we’ve seen the show start anywhere between June 8 and June 13. We don’t see any reason for that changing. In airing within this window, the show can air a good 10-13 episodes without any substantial interference from major networks which should bring in some nice ratings.
For the time being, all we know is that the show is going to have a run this summer, but don’t take that as a sign that we’re getting a small batch of episodes and that’s it. TNT has a pattern these days of ordering additional episodes after the fact. Even if season 6 turns out to be the final season, it still wouldn’t shock us to see Major Crimes air a second batch of episodes in either the fall or the winter. If they do that, let’s just hope that they avoid Wednesday nights at 9:00 p.m. Eastern this time around. We would love a season 7, so they need to make sure the ratings come in to make that happen.
