Homeland season 6 finale spoilers: Carrie and Quinn at the center of everything

Carrie and Quinn

Homeland may be a show about America and national security, but a good bit of that is framed within the lens of this being a story about people. This is an emotional journey about watching how these characters ty to survive some of their trauma, and look towards whatever their future could be once they escape the rubble of the present.

This season began with Carrie and Quinn in some capacities, and it only makes some further sense that it end in a similar sort of way. Speaking on this subject to Deadline, here is what executive producer Alex Gansa had to say on the subject:

“First and foremost you have to look at the Peter Quinn-Carrie Mathison relationship. That was the first dramatic scene of this season, Carrie and Quinn together in that VA hospital. In large part, that has functioned as the emotional center of Season 6. One can expect that that relationship is going to come to some head in the finale, because that was the first and foremost idea we came into this season with — so there’s that on the table.”

Thematically, Gansa also teased that the events of the season 6 finale should start to set in motion what are going to be the final two years of the show. Gansa and Showtime haven’t minced words regarding the show’s likely end in season 8, which puts it up there alongside some of the other greats in Dexter and Shameless. Knowing this end date so far in advance does enable the network to plan ahead, and figure out precisely some of the ways that they want to close out the story. No doubt, this is a delicate balancing act between character story and larger political conflicts, but it is nonetheless something that the show is going to have to figure out in order to achieve the best ending possible. You want to keep your focus on the issues that are real, but you also want to construct a fitting end to Carrie’s story — or the part of it that you are going to see on-camera over the course of the season. We remain happy and hopeful that we’re going to get a chance to see some sort of conclusion that offers hope. We don’t think that the entire journey of this show was meant to make you feel that the sky is falling.
