Great news for anyone out there wondering — a Poldark season 4 renewal is official! There’s no more need to wonder.
While at a BFI & Radio Times Festival event recently, series star Aidan Turner was one of the first to confirm that you’re going to have an opportunity to see more new episodes of the BBC One series based on the books. Filming for season 4 is going to start in September, which is around when the majority of the seasons of the show film. It’s a little early to talk about premiere dates for that, so let’s not get too far ahead of ourselves here. We also know that the scripts are already being written on the fourth season long in advance — better to be prepared, right?
One of the other interesting notes that came out of the event was the news that season 3 is going to have the rather-interesting episode order of nine. That is one more episode than we saw for season 1, but also an episode less than season 2. Our feeling is that this is for the most part a case of crafting the number of episodes in order to meet the demands of the story. That’s not something that you get a whole lot of when it comes to American television, but they’re getting better at it. In some ways, we’d argue that they are working more to catch up to what everyone over in the UK’s been doing for a rather long while now.
The third season of Poldark is going to be premiering in June, so we’ll hopefully get some further details about those episodes around then. The main thing that we imagine we’re going to see is drama, and plenty of it. Ross is far from the perfect person — he’s a conflicted hero, and that is a big part of why he’s so appealing. There aren’t exactly just a whole flurry of characters out there quite like him, and we hope that some of the light and shade of his character is still there.
With that said, can we have about ten minutes or so of happiness at the start of the season? Part of what makes a great arc is that you can see just how happy characters are when they aren’t surrounded by chaos.
