Supergirl season 2: Melissa Benoist on Kara – Lena friendship
This is another testament to the sort of person and heroine that Kara is — she’s not willing to accept things for what society would project for them to be. She wants to dig a little bit deeper underneath the surface, and find out what the truth really is. From what she’s seen so far, she doesn’t think that there is any reason to treat Lena as someone evil. This is specifically what Melissa Benoist had to say on the subject in a new interview with Entertainment Weekly:
“I think they have a really special bond. The allure of the Luthor-Super relationship is so fascinating in the comics. I love where they’re taking it now. She has no caution to being friends with Lena. She just sees a good heart right now.”
Of course, whether or not this perception stays this way over the remainder of the season remains to be seen. The biggest thing that we know for now is that Lena’s not going anywhere. she’s got a huge part of the show’s next new episode airing on April 24, and she’s going to be a part of season 3 thanks to Katie McGrath’s promotion to series regular. That should help to give Kara another female connection on the show beyond just her sister Alex. She hasn’t had a lot of screen time with Maggie on her own for now, and she doesn’t have Cat Grant around anymore. Maybe Calista Flockhart does return at some point in the sereis, but it’s probably not going to be in a major capacity given that the show’s not on CBS anymore, and they’re also not filming in Vancouver.
