Better Call Saul season 3: Giancarlo Esposito’s Gus Fring gives you a tour

Better Call Saul season 3

With Better Call Saul season 3 premiering on AMC in a matter of just two days, who better to focus on than the best villain in the Breaking Bad universe in Gus Fring?

In the video HERE, you can see none other than the fried-chicken guru himself working to give you what is effectively a new training video for his famed restaurant Los Pollos Hermanos, teaching you some of the fine ways of being a successful employee. This looks on the surface to be a pretty standard training video, but you do have one or two moments in here where it does appear as though Gus’ darkness is shining through. This is what makes Giancarlo Esposito just an effective actor — while on the surface he may appear to be one way, there are these glimpses of a deeper, darker soul that do pop in here and there. Gus is one of the most notorious villains in the Breaking Bad universe for a reason.

It does make a great deal of sense for AMC to promote much of Monday’s season premiere using Gus, even if it is not necessarily confirmed he will be in the first episode. The network is aware that most people out there who were planning to watch for Jimmy McGill and Mike Ehrmantraut are also looking forward to seeing Fring. By focusing even more on Gus, you are looking to attract even more of your Breaking Bad base to the series. You know that viewers are going to be excited to see an old favorite, even if he is a ruthless villain.

Also, Fring may be one of the bigger characters that you can effectively market for the show — if Bryan Cranston or Aaron Paul do show up on the series at some point (we’re rather torn on if they ever should), you want it to be a surprise. It’s just hard to think of a sensible way to make that happen given that they already had their story told. This show is more the story of Jimmy and Mike, and how they found themselves at the center of such an operation in the later seasons of Breaking Bad.
